Enshrouded, The Most-Played Steam Next Fest Demo, Unveils Early Access Release Date in January 2024!
Posted November 07, 2023 Frankfurt am Main, 07 November 2023 – Keen Games, developer and independent publisher of Enshrouded, proudly declares that the survival ARPG co-op game will launch into Early Access on January 24, 2024. The game was first revealed this past May and secured the Most Played Demo, Most Wishlisted, and Most Daily Active Users at the conclusion of Steam Next Fest. Enshrouded is Keen Games’ first self-published title, following their previous launch Portal Knights, which features survival, combat, and voxel-based building. After many years of development, one celebrated demo, and plenty of videos later, Keen Games is proud to confirm that Enshrouded has a release date - albeit, a little later than previously foretold. However, as you will see in the release date reveal trailer and if you played the demo, you’ll see that keeping an open mind and an “anything is possible” attitude is part of what drives the team.
In Keen Game’s over 20 years of experience in a tightly-knit team, they have learned to expect the unexpected. The release date was chosen as it was important to the team to carry the monumental success of the demo with a high-quality Early Access launch. The team shares this announcement with much excitement and gratitude to the community for their support so far, including the surprise critical success of the Steam Next Fest demo.
Utilizing Portal Knights as the spiritual foundation of Enshrouded, the developers took inspiration from games within the survival space such as Valheim, though with a relaxed approach to survival itself. Weaving in elements inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Minecraft (in terms of openness and plethora of crafting and building options), the goal was to create a more welcoming entry to the survival genre and a space that wasn't strict so as to leave more room for fun. Keen Games delighted in seeing players adventure, build, craft for hours on end, as well as dying, role-playing, and generally, having fun alone or with friends.
The heart of each of Enshrouded’s core components is rooted in freedom and flexibility, powered by a custom voxel-based engine. After revealing the game in May of this year, Keen Games produced several gameplay videos showcasing the expansive options within the key pillars, and deep-dive videos on combat, building & terraforming, and survival & exploration on the Keen Games YouTube channel. The custom voxel engine ensures consistent visual theming that feels in-universe, no matter what is created.
